![]() ![]() I wasn’t getting anywhere, so I decided to put out a demo of a song that I had written during that time. It was years of that and singing demos for a couple hundred dollars here and there, and doing everything I could to be seen as a writer. I really wanted to write music for other people. At that time, I didn’t necessarily think I was capable of being an artist, especially as a career. #MISSAL SISTERS THE NEXT BIG THING PROFESSIONAL#I was bartending and living in NYC and I wanted to be a professional musician, but I didn’t know how. It’s always felt like this thing that I’m supposed to be doing. I’ve been submersed in all different aspects of music, performing and writing since I was super young. I joined a band in high school, played around NYC and started to meet producers. At the time, I didn’t understand that I really was cultivating my interest and my profession with music. I wasn’t even aware of the impact that it was having on me, to have access to creating things and hearing my voice on a record and using the beautiful equipment. My dad kept his recording equipment in the basement, so from a really young age, I was recording music. When my older sister and I were super young, we moved from NYC to a suburb in New Jersey. He met my mom that way and they ran a recording studio in Manhattan for a long time. My dad was a musician, a producer and a songwriter all throughout his teens and young adulthood. I started recording music when I was four years old in the basement of the house that I grew up in. How were you first introduced to music and creating? There's so much time spent isolated in a studio making the music and so much time spent promoting it online, but now I have the opportunity to get to see people in person and feel the way that they interact with the music. To see that people are still willing to show up for something in a physical sense and have an experience with you face to face - it’s the most special part of what I do. We are getting so used to interacting with people in a digital way that it makes it harder to connect in real life. Monica Mercuri: Congratulations on starting your headlining tour! What are you looking forward to about hitting the road and connecting with your fans?ĭonna Missal: There’s something really particular about getting to see people in person that feels different than any other interaction. #MISSAL SISTERS THE NEXT BIG THING FULL#Check out our full exclusive interview, below. ![]()
